Workshops and Resources for RSI Self-Treatment

The web is a great resource for general information, but it’s a mixed blessing. The longer you spend looking up information the more likely you are to have pain! It’s so much more convenient and easy to learn when you’re talking with people, asking questions and having personal interaction. There are a few inexpensive resources you can turn to, to learn more about RSI, meet other people who are coping with it, and ask your specific questions.

First of all, check with your doctor or medical foundation to find out if they are offering any upcoming workshops. The Santa Cruz Medical Foundation in California, for example, has regular classes every few months (called “Relief for Achy Hands”) that are only an hour and a half long, and cost just $10. It’s taught by an OT and certified hand therapist and aimed at those with CTS, arthritis or other hand pain. If you’re in the Santa Cruz area, just call 831-479-6628 to register.

Local community colleges or adult education might also offer ergonomics workshops. And some employers might provide training. You could check with your human resources department and let them know you’d be interested.
